Streets and houses are the backbone of community. How they developed a fascinating subject, and is closely associated with the history of the village.
In section 2.2 Village Development, there are three short articles on this theme
2.2a The Ends of Baslow. 2.2b Map showing the Shape of the Parish
and 2.2c The Growth of Houses in Baslow and Bubnell
7.1 Maps of Streets and Houses
7.1a contains two simple street maps (a choice) with street names, helpful for locating parts of the village. There are also further maps with information about the number of houses in a street (delivering leaflets? – use this section)
7.1b has four large scale maps with each house named (correct in 2010). Very useful for finding the position of a house in a street
7.2 Houses and their inhabitants
7.2a Short articles on the history of 20 houses which I have found of interest.
7.2b HOUSE-LIST. This took a lot of work, and is unfinished. It is a single file with a a list of all the older (pre 1920) hosues in Baslow and Bubnell, with information about the house and its occupiers. A must for family historians and local residents
7.3 Sales
Between 1920 and 1940 there were 5 or 6 sales of land for housingn. Each resulted in a spate of building.
7.3a 1920 Rutland Sale on Baslow
7.3b 1927 Rutland Sale Longshaw (only a few lots)
7.2c 1930 Baslow Hall Sale
