4.1 BASLOW AND BUBNELL CENSUS RETURNS 1841 – 1911
The census returns are essential for family history research, and also help in understanding the village and its activities. The returns for Baslow and Bubnell are presented in two formats. The first is PDF files arranged in pages from which you can view and print.
4.1a Census 1841-1911 is a large Excel file which needs to be downloaded. It can then be searched filtered and sorted. There are extra fields of coded information allowing a more sophisticated analysis for readers who are interested. For fiurther information about this file see 4.1c Census coding For my own iuse I have coded many of the entries in the Census files, esp the Excel one. This gives details (which can be safely ignored!)
4.1b Census 1939 The 1939 census was an extra undertaking because of the impending war. Some names were excluded for security reasons.
4.2 BASLOW ENCLOSURE AWARD 1824

4.3 BASLOW AND BUBNELL TITHE AWARDS 1848
The Tithe Award was an administrative exercise to do with tax. Fortunately for the historian it needed the names of all the owners and tenants together with exact details of the land they were responsible for. Details for Baslow and Bubnell are reproduced below. The maps are great for showing where residents lived and the extent of their holdings (occasionally as a freeholder usually as a tenant).

4.3ab Baslow Tithe May – village A portion of the main map showing the village, detailing where most people lived.
4.3ac Baslow Tithe Map – parish. This map shows the whole parish. The title Baslow after the Napoleonic Wars is miseading but it is a fair copy of the original map, and much more legible.
4.3ad Tithe notes. list the main columns in the award, and a guide indicating where to find the location of a tithe number.

4.4 CENSUS RETURNS FOR NEARBY VILLAGES 1851
